Banana Bingo Celebration!

On Monday we earned our first banana bingo!  Throughout a school day, the class earns points by transitioning quickly and quietly back to our seats.  When I say, "Banana to your seats," the class knows to return to their seats without voices.  This earns them a banana point.  They also earn points when materials are handed out, and the quiet helpers confirm that there were no voices.  Once 5 points are earned, we draw a number and add a banana to our bingo board.  Eventually, we get a bingo!  Once a bingo is earned on our board, we brainstorm ways to celebrate as a class.  For our first celebration the class voted on watching a movie with popcorn.  Once an idea has been used for banana bingo, it won't be repeated.  We'll always celebrate in a new way.  The students were beyond excited to celebrate on Wednesday afternoon!

Crankenstein Art

This week in 2nd grade we read the book "Crankenstein" by Samantha Berger.  In this story, the main character details all the funny situations that turn him into a Crankenstein.  We talked about how we all have things that make us cranky.  The students brainstormed a few of their ideas on a bubble map.  These ideas will be turned into complete sentences and put into their own Crankenstein books.  On Thursday and Friday we worked on our Crankenstein self-portraits.  They had so much fun with this!

Tree Planting

On Tuesday all the classes at Lanesboro Schools participated in a tree planting event.  New trees were planted all around the school.  The 2nd grade class planted a tree in front of the school.  The students were able to help with digging out the hole, mulching, and watering the tree.  It was an adventure!  It will be fun for the 2nd graders to watch this tree grow, as they grow, throughout the years!

You're Finally Here Books

A few weeks ago we finished up our booklets we started on the first day of school.  Based on the book "You're Finally Here" by Melanie Watt, the students started with a bubble map with their ideas of 3 events they did over the summer.  These bubble ideas were then turned into complete sentences.  These sentences were written in their booklets and illustrated.  The final page was about what the students are looking forward to in 2nd grade.  These booklets are down on the rug for the students to enjoy reading.  They did such a good job!

Homecoming 2021!

What a fun homecoming week we had at Lanesboro!  The highlight of the week in elementary is the homecoming parade on Friday.  We were 2nd grade fantastic froggies cheering on our Burros!  2nd graders, you did great on Friday!
